1. What Data We Collect

When you use LocalMapz, we collect the following information:

Email address — used for account identification and login
Password — stored securely (hashed) and never transmitted in plain text
Search history — the locations and filters you search for, used to serve results and improve the service
Business notes — any notes you add to businesses in the app
Token balance and purchase history — to manage your account credits

We do not collect your name, phone number, or payment card details directly. Payments are handled by third-party payment processors.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

Provide and operate the LocalMapz service
Authenticate your login sessions
Track token usage and balance
Save your notes and search preferences
Improve search result quality and relevance
Respond to support requests

We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. Data Storage

Your account data is stored securely on Cloudflare infrastructure (Cloudflare D1 database and KV storage), which is distributed globally and operates under Cloudflare's security standards. Authentication tokens are stored in your browser's localStorage only.

4. Third-Party Services

LocalMapz uses the following third-party APIs to provide business search results. When you perform a search, your query parameters (location coordinates, category) are sent to these services:

Google Places API — Google Privacy Policy
TomTom — TomTom Privacy Policy
Geoapify — Geoapify Privacy Policy
OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — OSM Privacy Policy
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap geocoding) — used for location lookup

We do not pass your email address or personal information to these services — only geographic coordinates and category queries.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

LocalMapz does not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to store your session token and email address locally on your device. This data stays on your device and is used only to keep you logged in. You can clear it at any time by logging out or clearing your browser storage.

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
Right to erasure — request deletion of your account and all associated data
Right to data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Right to object — object to processing of your personal data

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your email, notes, search history, and token balance within 30 days. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being permanently removed.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted storage, secure HTTPS connections, and access control. However, no internet service is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, contact us immediately.

9. Children's Privacy

LocalMapz is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
